Baglung Municipality is situated in Baglung District of Gandaki Province in the western region of Nepal. It is divided into 14 wards and covers an area of 98.01 km2. It was established on January 31, 1997, by merging 3 Village Development Committees (VDCs) namely, Kalika, Mulpani and Laharepipal and was reformed on March 10, 2017 by merging 7 VDCs; Malika, Tityang, Bhakunde, Raya Danda, Amalachaur, Paiyupata, Narayansthan and partial wards of Sigana and Paala. It lies at 28°16ʹ to 28°27ʹ N latitude and 83°35ʹ to 83°58ʹ E longitude and at the altitude from 440 metres above sea level (masl) to 1,910 masl (Baglung Municipality, 2024).
A population of 56,102 is residing on 15,924 households in the municipality (National Statistics Office, 2023). The annual population growth rate of the municipality is -0.35%. This shows that the municipality has increasing out migration. The municipality has a temperate climate (Cwb) with warm summers and dry winters. The annual average temperature of the municipality is 14.9°C and receives 2306 mm rainfall per year (Climate-Data, 2021).
The SFD graphic shows that excreta generated from 86% of the population are safely managed while 14% of the population are unsafely managed. The safely managed FS generated from 86% of population is temporary as the FS has not been emptied. With the current practice of faecal sludge management (FSM), the proportion of safely managed FS will soon become unsafely managed once the containments start filling up.
