SFD (level 1) Report - Sreepur Municipality, Bangladesh
Sreepur Municipality is located in the Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur District under Dhaka Division. It is approximately 25 kilometres from the District town and in the southeastern portion of the Gazipur District. The geographical coordinates of Sreepur are between 24°10' and 24°14â N and 90°23' and 90°29'" E . It is bordered on the north by the upazilas of Bhaluka and Gaffargaon, on the south by the upazilas of Gazipur Sadar and Kaliganj, on the east by the upazila of Kapasia, and on the west by the upazilas of Kaliakair and Sakhipur. According to the population census in 2011 by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the population of Sreepur Municipality was 126,249. The urban population growth in Sreepur is 3.8% per year. Considering 10% floating population, such as farmers and traders coming to the city every day, the present (2023) population is estimated to be around 217,265. The household survey results show that majority of the occupation is business (39%), followed by private service (30%) and agriculture (12%) .
The city does not have a dedicated sewerage system and most sanitation systems available in the town are classified as onsite systems (81.9%). The main types of toilet facilities are toilets connected to an open drain, to a water body or to open ground, septic tanks connected to a soak pit, to an open drain, to a water body or to open ground, lined tanks or lined pits, with no outlet or overflow and unlined pits.
The outcome of the SFD graphic shows that only fifteen (15%) of the excreta flow is classified as safely managed, and the remaining eighty five percent (85%) is classified as unsafely managed.
