SFD (level 1) Report - Araihazar Municipality, Bangladesh
Araihazar Municipality is situated within the Araihazar Upazila of Narayanganj District, under Dhaka Division. At present, Araihazar Municipality has 65 km of road network and 13.3 km of drain network. Araihazar is located between latitudes 23°40' and 23°53' north and 90°35' and 90°45 east. It is bordered on the north by the upazila of Narsingdi Sadar, on the west by the upazilas of Rupganj and Sonargaon, and on the south by the upazila of Homna. According to the Araihazar Municipality Development Plan (2021-2022), the population of Araihazar Municipality was 25,593. The urban population growth in Araihazar is 3% per year. Considering 10% floating population, such as farmers and traders coming to the city every day, the present (2023) population is estimated to be around 28,997. The household survey results show that majority of the occupation is business (34%), followed by private service (30%), self-employment (15%), and agriculture (8%).
The city does not have a dedicated sewerage system and most sanitation systems available in the town are classified as onsite systems (85.5%). The main types of toilet facilities are toilets connected to an open drain, to a water body or to open ground, septic tanks connected to a soak pit, to an open drain, to a water body or to open ground, lined tanks or lined pits, with no outlet or overflow and unlined pits.
The outcome of the SFD graphic shows that only nine percent (9%) of the excreta flow is classified as safely managed, and the remaining ninety one percent (91%) is classified as unsafely managed.
